HPNLU, Internship and Placement Cell (HPNLUIPC)

The Internship and Placement Cell has been constituted to look after all the affairs related to internships and placements. Internship has become part and parcel of the legal curriculum now. The Bar Council of India has framed the ‘Rules of Legal Education,2008’which mandate that minimum period of Internship: (a) Each registered student shall have completed minimum of 12 weeks internship for Three Year Course stream and 20 weeks in case of Five Year Course stream during the entire period of legal studies under NGO, Trial and Appellate Advocates, Judiciary, Legal Regulatory authorities, Legislatures and Parliament, Other Legal Functionaries, Market Institutions, Law Firms, Companies, Local Self Government and other such bodies as the University shall stipulate, where law is practiced either in action or in dispute resolution or in management. This idea of compulsory internship has been mandated to bridge the gap between practice and theory. Any theory however good, it may be, but would desuetude the basic objective of the theory and of course of the discipline, if fails to apply in practice. This is where the internship becomes of utmost importance to law students.

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University, is located in one of the most beautiful locations in the country but the same time the hilly terrain has exposure to certain limitations. Our academic calendar is slightly different from other law institutions, due to the severe cold in the month of January and February. This difference has both pros and cons to us. The endeavour of the committee is to facilitate students in timely intimations of internships applications to different firms, chambers, commissions, authorities etc., where they wish to put their request for the internships.
