In the Age of Artificial Intelligence, art of writing is facing existential crisis. Human Intelligence, its errors and emotional vulnerabilities make the process of writing a therapeutic journey. In fact, nobody knows what a perfect goal can be imagined but the journey of life makes it meaningful. Similarly, writing does not travel to the imagined place of perfection, it is a form of art whose journey defines its meaning. If a machine can produce a comprehensive or precise draft, no human mind will ever think, imagine, or create anything except, it will learn the language of instruction. Such Age may witness proliferation of writings and effacement of its therapeutic journey. Journey of writing is not necessarily a Eurocentric history, it is a species’ achievement, which is nowadays under-appreciated. The technological march of writing is moving towards its own annihilation; the death of human reason and human emotions for the sake of productions, only production of information all too information, collection, creation, and management of information, the simulated excitement in producing and being produced as information.
Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla was founded on the vision of “imagining the un-imaginable”, perpetually challenging the frontiers of ignorance to get insights into the sphere of ignorance which is oceanic in comparison to the domain of knowledge. The University is a journey towards breaking the shackles of dogmatic beliefs and it is a blossoming process in enlightening the spirit of reason as only humanistic endeavor for social transformation and self-realization. As Aristotle said, human beings are the only rational souls who can think and reflect on their own state of existence. This is a special gift of evolution which is under-appreciated in the Age of Information.
The fourth volume of HPNLU Law Journal (HLJ) is an endeavor to contemplate on the abstract notion of truth, right, and good through particular practices, policies, and events. This volume is an anthology on the essays, encompassing the classis conception of law imagined by positivists, such as John Austin and H.L.A. Hart, the norms and practices which manage inequality through anti-discrimination laws in India, the conception of legal personality of natural entities, such as rivers and mountains, etc., exploration of legal liability on the online market, a constitutional perspective of secularism, freedom or unfreedoms of reproductive choices of women in India, legal frontiers of real estate tokenization in India, crafting crossroads for global insolvency challenges, concept of dharma and its contemporary relevance in the Modern jurisprudence, cross-cultural mediation and transforming conflict resolution, and lastly promoting AI inclusivity in India.
HPNLU, Shimla takes pride in the fact that it holds high the flag of promoting quality learning and knowledge exchange free of cost. It achieves this goal by making its publications freely accessible through its official website. I am sure Volume IV of HLJ would add to the existing pool of knowledge.
