The Vice-Chancellor’s Message

It is a matter of immense pleasure for me to welcome students of under-graduate and post graduate programmes, Academic Session – 2024-2025, coming from all parts of the country and abroad. The Himachal Pradesh National law University, Shimla, located in the laps of Himalayas, offers the best topographical and climatic environment for study and research activities. The University provides one of the finest faculties, library facilities with a robust curriculum. The curriculum of the University focuses, apart from the core subjects of law, one merging areas of study and research such as information technology laws, different branches of IPRs, artificial intelligence and law, forensic science and psychology, comparative public law and jurisprudence, history of philosophy etc. The University aims at establishing an environment for and promoting the development of sound critical abilities, practical skills, and knowledge in each and every student, intended to prepare them, not only for their successful professional life but also developing the student as an asset for the social and legal systems.


The University has been making special efforts to develop best infrastructure as part of the integrated complex of the campus. The Library of the University has got, apart from the physical resources, all important digital resources and data bases to help students and scholars to carry out the research activities.


There are three research publications of the University in the form of law journals; one of them, namely, Shimla Law Review, is listed in the UGC-CARE List. The Placement Assistant Cell (PAC) has been facilitating and assisting students in securing internship and placement opportunities across India. The University has advanced and specialized research Centres working in different areas of law and interdisciplinary research. The events and programmes organized by these Centres provide continuous and holistic exposure to the students.
